Popular utility / bush plane. High theoretical max. range, but the Model 4 was refused to Charles Lindbergh for his cross Atlantic flight. The manufacturer Atlantic Aircraft Corporation found it to risky and was afraid for its own reputation. The Universal was designed and built entirely in the US. From the start it was also designed as cargo/mail aircraft so not exclusively for passenger transport, making it a versatile aircraft.
